Seaside Twill vs. Seaside Luxe

24 June 2022

Meet our new Feelgrounds unisex barefoot sandal perfect for your summer: Seaside Luxe

In this blog article, we’re excited to present you our new sandal style, what features it shares with our first sandal style, and how they differ. Our first Seaside barefoot sandal style, made with straps out of cotton twill, is well-loved by you, and will continue to be available. To avoid confusion with our new Seaside Luxe style, we officially decided to rename our first sandal style “Seaside Twill”.

While Seaside Twill is a very casual sandal style with focus on natural and breathable materials, our new Seaside Luxe style is a more sophisticated version thanks to its stylish faux leather straps.

Both Seaside styles share the identical 3.5 mm (0.14 inch) thin, but durable rubber outsole. In both cases, the sole is lined with a natural cork insole that provides a very comfortable feel against the skin of your feet. The total sole thickness / stack height is 7 mm (0.27 inch) to allow for a great ground feel while being thick enough for a comfortable walking experience on asphalt and other hard surfaces. The barefoot sandal’s secure fit on the foot, wide toe box and flexibility support a natural gait.

What are the differences between the two styles?

Color options & sizes

Both of our barefoot sandal styles are unisex and, like all current Feelgrounds shoes, available in sizes EU 35 to EU 49. Seaside Twill is available in six colors: Biscuit Beige, Burgundy Red, Black, Deep Olive, Dusty Pink, and Stone Grey. Our new Seaside Luxe comes in the colors Black, Metallic Rose, and Sienna.

Strap material

The main difference between the two sandal styles is the material that the straps are made of. Seaside Twill features straps made from natural cotton, and Seaside Luxe comes with more dressy faux leather straps. Both materials are great, and you can choose whatever fits your preferences most. While the cotton straps result in an overall more casual look, the faux leather straps make the sandal easier to dress up.

Cut

Seaside Luxe already comes with the improved cut of Seaside Twill’s second production batch. This means that compared to the first Seaside Twill generation (released in summer 2021), both this year's Seaside Twill pairs and all Seaside Luxe pairs feature a slightly larger hook and loop fastener area on the back strap. That's especially useful for those customers wearing Seaside with a tightly pulled back strap. Additionally, we’ve made a further update to Seaside Luxe: the part of the strap that juts out in front of the little rivet, is shorter on Seaside Luxe for an even more comfortable fit. This detail will also be implemented for all future Seaside Twill generations.

Sizing

Seaside Luxe fit true-to-size. If you already own a pair of Seaside Twill, we recommend the same size as for Seaside Luxe because they share the identically proportioned sole.

With sandals, too much space in front of your toes can easily lead to stumbling. Therefore, we made Seaside’s soles slightly shorter than the soles of our other shoe styles. That’s why – in most cases – we can recommend the same size for Seaside that you usually wear in your other Feelgrounds. You can find the exact measurements for Seaside’s sole length and width on the Seaside product pages under “sizing info” or on our designated sizing page.

However, choosing your perfect size of Seaside depends not only on the length and width of your foot, but also on your instep volume. Seaside Twill is best suited for low to medium volume feet. Seaside Luxe fits a little looser in comparison and is therefore perfect for medium volume feet. The straps of both styles have an elastic band on the inside of the instep to provide an excellent fit for various foot shapes. For very low-volume feet, however, we recommend Seaside Twill.

For customers who are typically between two sizes, we recommend choosing the size according to their foot volume. If you have a high-volume foot, select the larger size. If you have a low-volume foot, select the smaller size. For customers with a very high instep, we recommend choosing one size larger to ensure a more comfortable fit.

This year we have also updated our printable size guide PDF for Seaside. The printable PDF now features not only the length of the sole, but shows its complete shape, so you can also easily check your compatibility widthwise and lengthwise. We have also marked the position of the sandal’s toe post.

Same care instructions for both Seaside styles

You can clean the straps of the sandals with a soft brush, a little water, and a gentle shoe cleansing foam. To remove loose dirt from the sole, we recommend using a soft, dry brush. Afterward, you can spray a light layer of shoe disinfectant to neutralize potential odors.

Please note: Cork is a natural material that can change its color when it comes into contact with water. Therefore, discoloration over time, e.g. due to sweat, is completely normal. The sandals are not suitable for practicing sports or wearing in the water.
